Soil and Planting Bed Preparation: The Most Important Hidden Stage
Most landscape problems begin in the planting bed. Take soil improvement and drainage seriously.

Soil on a project site is often compacted, calcareous or mixed with construction debris. Planting in such a medium restricts root growth from the outset.
Improve or Replace?
Soil analysis determines whether to improve the existing soil or replace a layer with suitable soil. Adding organic matter and improving soil texture are both common approaches.
Drainage
Water remaining in the root zone is a common cause of rot. Proper drainage is particularly important in planters and enclosed planting beds.
